MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES AT PARK CHURCH

CAROL CHOIR is an ensemble for children ages four through eight that rehearses each Sunday from 10:00-10:45 am and sings an anthem one Sunday per month. Cheryl Wells, Director.

JOYFUL NOISE is an ensemble for children ages eight through thirteen that rehearses each Sunday from 10:00-10:45 am and sings an anthem one Sunday per month.   Mandy York, Director

PARK CHORISTERS is a choir for girls in grades nine through twelve that rehearses each Sunday from 12:15-12:45 pm and sings an anthem one Sunday per month. Jim Metzler, Director.

PARK CHURCH INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE is a band/orchestra for instrumentalists of college age and older that rehearses from 9:30-10:15 am on Sunday mornings and plays at the 11:00 am service several times a year.  Pamela Smitter Baker, Director

SMITH/DIVELY RINGERS is a handbell choir for high school age youth and adults that rehearses every Thursday from 6:30-7:20 pm and plays one Sunday per month. Jim Metzler, Director.

CHANCEL CHOIR is a mixed ensemble for adults of college age and older that rehearses every Thursday from 7:30-9:00 pm and sings every Sunday for the 11:00 am worship service from early September through May.  Chancel Choir repertoire includes standard classical anthems, Spirituals, Gospel music and Taize chants.  Jim Metzler, Director.

ORGANIST AND DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Jim Metzler was appointed Organist & Director of Music at Park Congregational Church, Grand Rapids on July 15, 2006. His duties involve directing the Chancel Choir, Smith/Dively Ringers, Parkmeisters (Men’s choir), Youth Choir and serving as Artistic Director of the “Music at Mid-Day” concert series which features a half-hour program of music every Tuesday from mid-September through May. He previously held similar positions at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, Arkansas (1996-2006) and Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo, Ohio. (1972-1996)

Following his early training as a boy chorister in the Choir of Men & Boys at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Worcester, Massachusetts, he was educated at Westminster Choir College, The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. A frequent recitalist, Jim has performed in venues such as Westminster Abbey (London), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), Westminster Cathedral (London), Notre Dame Cathedral (Paris), King’s College Chapel (Cambridge) and Washington National Cathedral (USA).
As a choral conductor, he has undertaken 15 choral tours to England that have included directing the music for some 100 services in Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, York Minster, Durham Cathedral, Norwich Cathedral, Salisbury Cathedral and Guildford Cathedral.
