Our Vision

Extravagant Love

“to build a community of relentless compassion and courageous hope,
where all are seen and known and the God of Extravagant Love is revealed.”

…to build a community…

…there is nothing more essential to the Christian life than the gathering of people in community. Whether at home in small groups, at baseball games and other fellowship activities, or for worship in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings, we work to build a communal bond. And yet, community is more than a social gathering. Community allows us to be full human beings and provides the resources for us to take the risks of faithful living. Indeed wherever two or three are gathered in Jesus’ name, the God of love is there among us.

…of relentless compassion…

…the gospel ethic is found in the countless acts of compassion Jesus bestowed upon his closest friends and followers, and even strangers amongst the multitude of crowds that followed him. In our faithful living as individuals and a community, we strive to emulate this compassion through our mission and outreach programs. Jesus’ compassion was not merely occasional, it was relentless in and for everything he did. This relentlessly compassionate nature is both our inspiration and aspiration.

…and courageous hope…

…we live in times of pervasive depression and despair. As the church and as Christian people, these darknesses are never the final word. Beyond our cultural optimism, hope sinks deep into the joys and suffering of this life and fuels a trust in another tomorrow. Courage is often required to live according to such hope in the face of the prevailing winds. Here at Park Church we seek to trust evermore in love, grace, and hope.

…where all are seen and known…

…more than being welcome to come through our doors and to sit in our pews, we want all people to be honored as the human beings God fearfully and wonderfully made us all to be. To be noticed and to have even a piece of our story heard, is among the greatest gifts we can offer a fellow brother or sister. Seeing and knowing requires that one makes space within their self for another. There is always an open seat waiting for you here at Park Church.

…and the God of Extravagant Love is revealed…

…through all that we do, we hope to make known a particular God amongst many competing gods in our lives. This is what binds our vision together. There is no community, no relentless compassion, no courageous hope, no one can be fully seen or known without the extravagance of God’s love being revealed through them. May this be true of us now and forevermore.

We are indeed human, full of faults, short-comings, and insecurities. These impede our ability to live out our vision fully. And yet, we believe that being human is also full of great wonder, beauty, and possibility. Inspired by those who have come before us, by God’s grace, we aspire to live lives worthy of this vision.
